Data visualization

Pretty things…?

Data is a weird idea to think about. It’s the categorization and/or quantification of something. We can then use that to correlate it with another something. If we build up enough up these relationships, we might even find ourselves coming up with a commonality, and thus, a model (or theory) is born.

Depending on the nature of these somethings, the ability to gather insight from data can be challenging, especially if we want to be mathematically (and logically) rigorous. Working with these somethings is often a tedious process, regardless of the stage you’re at. So the best practice is to always find a way to visualize it and let our eyes (along with our brain) do the initial lifting. This gives the human in us a very efficient way to start developing intuition through heuristics and to start digesting the somethings by looking for patterns.

So to that end, this page is dedicated to providing imagery of data, visualized by yours truly. You’ll get a window into how I see data and/or or how I want you to see it – remember, that even if data is objective, the presentation can have degrees of subjectivity. Simplified explanations are given to help explain the beauty of the visual, but buried beneath it all is likely a complex story worth diving further into (by you!).
